The author's vocation was to search the less accessible parts of the world where the less familiar kind of animals for the zoos were found. In this volume Durrell's adventures take him to little known areas of the British Guiana. There he stalks, traps, nets and lassoes and where necessary buys from cooperative locals, the most eccentric, individual and delightful assortment of rare lizards, birds, monkeys and many other creatures.
