Gerald Durrell was born in Jamshedpur, India in 1925, in 1928 his family returned to England, eventually opting to settle instead on the island of Corfu where they lived until 1939. Here he made a study of zoology, and kept a large number of local wild animals as pets. This book is one of the many anthologies of his animal experiences in his lifetime.
